Buying a Pre-owned Holiday Home or Lodge

Buying a pre-owned holiday home or lodge can be a cost effective alternative to buying first hand.  But with such a large variety of models available in different sizes and different designs, making your decision can prove to be harder than originally anticipated.

So what should you look out for?  We’ve put together a few pointers for your search.

  1. To begin with, it is important that you visit the home and meet the previous owner at least once.  Find out if the home was let out to holidaymakers or used as a family home, as holiday lets often see more wear and tear.  Also ask about how the home holds up in winter, whether the neighbours are friendly or prefer to keep to themselves, and any other questions you might have.
  2. One question worth asking is what furniture the owner is planning to take with them. Although our new park homes arrive fully furnished, some owners decide to take some or all of the furniture with them when they leave. This could lead to extra costs for you, so find out if what will be left behind will be enough for you.  Also check for any signs of stains that can’t be removed and any permanent scratches or scuffs that may affect the appearance of the furniture.
  3. When you look around the home, take your time and pay attention to the little details as well as the obvious factors, such as size.  Check the doors – have they been slammed shut, damaging the locks?  Does the carpet need cleaning or even replacing?  Holiday homes tend to see a lot of wear on the sofas and mattresses, so check both for support. Also look out for signs of pets, any dog hairs or scratches.
  4. Finally, before you visit the home, it’s worth asking yourself how big you need it to be.  Will you need a large living space for your guests and a separate bathroom for them to use?  Is the kitchen large enough and is there enough counter space?  If you are planning to visit the park alone for a bit of peace and quiet, it might be worth considering a smaller house on a smaller plot so you won’t be spending your holiday cleaning unused bedrooms or maintaining the pitch.

Buying a preowned home can be a great way to experience the benefits of St Merryn Park for less.  If you do your homework, you can have a long lasting holiday home complete with all the modern fixtures and contemporary styling that you need.

When you come to the park you will be met by Stephen who will welcome you and show you around.  Don’t forget to ask him questions too and make the most of your time at the park!
