Truro
Just over half an hour from St Merryn is Cornwall’s only city! Defined so because of it’s spectacular Cathedral. Truro is the shopping hub of Cornwall, next to the water and complete with cobbled streets. Full of places to eat and drink and also a hub of night life at weekend.
St Austell
A half an hour drive from St Merryn Park heading down towards the South coast takes you to the old market town of St Austell. As one of Cornwall’s biggest towns, it’s no surprise St Austell boasts a great day out for all the family. Charlestown beach has been made famous for its appearances in Poldark, but St Austell is also a hub of history from china clay to shipwrecks and even beer, as well as being home to popular tourist attractions such as the St Austell Brewery – that stakes claim to many of the pubs and free-houses dotted around Cornwall, the mystical expanse of creativity that is Lost Gardens of Heligan, and, of course, the now iconic biome domes at the Eden Project.
Falmouth
An hour’s drive from St Merryn Park down to the South Coast takes you to the famous maritime town of Falmouth. Falmouth boasts one of the largest natural harbours in the world, surrounded by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the town draws people in like a magnet. The town sprawls out towards four beaches, with festivals and events occurring throughout the year, maritime history abounds with the likes of Henry VIII’s Pendennis castle, the National Maritime Museum, and Falmouth Docks. Two universities now share campuses in Falmouth, enhancing the town as a hub of student life, creativity, art, and music. Home to numerous family and dog friendly harbour side pubs, quirky shops as well as chain stores, regular boat trips, and quite possibly the best beach cafe in the UK, Falmouth is a popular day out and no stranger to celebrity visits.
